Systems Engineer – Temporary

Position Summary

Pace, North America’s leading and largest independent brand storytelling agency, is looking for a temporary Systems Engineer to join our Greensboro team.  This full-time, temporary role will likely run through the end of the year (December 2018), but will be contingent upon company needs.

The Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation and ongoing support of Windows and Linux servers, virtual machines, networking, peripheral and printer interfacing, backups and telecommunications equipment.  In this role, you will provide hands-on technical support daily in all areas of operation.  Qualified candidates will have a deep understanding of systems integration and implementation of complex projects.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Design and implement contingency planning solutions
  • Design, document and implement plans as needed for complex integrations
  • Implement and maintain required hardening and patching of the environment
  • Create technical solution proposals as needed to solve business needs
  • Create standard operating procedures and all other supporting documentation
  • Setup and maintain tape and disk to disk backup solution
  • Recovery and delivery of all files from backup
  • Offer helpdesk support for all applications on Windows based computers
  • Maintain a current inventory and asset management records of all equipment and licenses used in the production process
  • Identify software and hardware needs
  • Place all software and hardware orders (to be approved by IT Manager)
  • Setup and maintain standards for desktop and server configurations
  • Upgrade, setup and maintenance of all production computers and peripherals
  • Set up and ongoing maintenance of all network and e-mail services
  • Monthly maintenance and updates of all assigned servers
  • Participate in after hours on-call rotation
  • Work with various hardware and software vendors to resolve issues as they arise
  • Maintains relationship with vendors that support the Pace equipment
  • Mentor and train IT staff as needed
  • Work with managers and end-users to understand requirements and define solutions
  • Work with peers in team atmosphere in support of IT environment
  • Stay abreast of technology advances

Job Qualifications

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or comparable experience

Experience:

  • 5+ years in the design, implementation and ongoing support of Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange Server, CentOS Linux and desktop platforms in a mixed Microsoft/Apple TCP/IP networked environment
  • 2 + years of experience in the setup and ongoing support of virtual systems using VMWare

 Skills:

  • Extensive working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, and CentOS (or similar) Linux platforms; server-based software including MS-Exchange, enterprise backup software, and ad-hoc software applications; TCP/IP networking; server and network security principals; desktop
  • Strong troubleshooting and interpersonal skills for customer support
  • Experience designing technical solutions in support of the business needs with a demonstrated ability to communicate with all user levels, management, and vendors
  • Experience developing and maintaining documentation including standard operating procedures
  • Comfortable training members of the IT team and end-users on all new and current technologies within areas of responsibility
  • Able to provide remote support of all network and system components
